Minimum Qualifications

• Must hold and maintain a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Hawaii.
• Recent clinical experience, education, or specialty skills specific to geriatrics.

This position is very active and requires:

• Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant in good standing with the state, or must within four (4) months of employment successfully complete state-required training and a competency evaluation program. Must maintain current certification in the state throughout employment.

Job Duties

• Assist in food preparation and serving and maintain clean and sanitary conditions in the kitchen and dining areas under the supervision of the Dietary Services Manager or Cook.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Prior food services experience preferred.

Essential Functions

• Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
• Must practice regular and predictable attendance including punctuality for shifts.
• Must follow company policies including harassment, code of ethics, complaint procedures, safety, sanitation, confidentiality, dress code and resident rights.
• Must serve residents with a high level of hospitality.
• Must assist with evacuation of residents and support residents during times of crisis (i.e., natural disasters).
• Must assist with dining room set-up for assigned meal and assist with clean-up before and after.
• Must be able to serve meals via trays.
• Must be able to concentrate and use reasoning skills and good judgment.
• Must be able to communicate and function in an interdisciplinary team.
• Must be able to sit, stand, bend, lift, push, pull, stoop, walk and move intermittently during working hours.
• Must be able to lift 30 lbs floor to waist, lift 10 lbs waist to shoulder, lift and carry 30 lbs and push/pull 40 lbs.

Basic Duties & Responsibilities

• Assists with dining room set-up.
• Assists with dish room tasks.
• Attends pre-meal menu review meeting.
• Performs duties at assigned station (i.e., beverages, salad bar).
• Performs assigned cleaning and prep work duties.
• Greets residents and visitors in a welcoming manner.
• Assists residents with food selection.
• Checks for beverage refills timely.
• Serves residents timely and with appropriate serving techniques.
• Serves meals using trays.
• Strips and resets tables as needed during serving times.
• Removes dishes throughout meal service and delivers to dishwashing area.
• Removes soiled linens and places in designated laundry areas.
• Prepares tables for next meal.
• Removes trash and keeps dining room clean, dry and free of safety hazards.
• Prepares for next meal: cleans tables, wipes out chairs, fills condiment containers, mops, sweeps, cleans coffee maker, juice machine, etc.
• Follows opening and closing assignments.

Working Conditions

• Works in dining room and kitchen.
• Subject to frequent interruptions.
• Works beyond normal working hours, on weekends/holidays, and in other positions temporarily as necessary.
• Subject to falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc. throughout the working day.
• Subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents and families.
• Possible exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including exposure to AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
