The Assistant Licensed Nursing Home Administrator , is responsible for assisting the general management and coordination of all Kalakaua Gardens (KG) operations; ensures that the business of the Facility is conducted on a sound, realistic basis in compliance with all generally accepted health care regulations and procedures; governmental regulations; and in accordance with policies set forth by the KG; provides leadership direction for all staff; and exercises direct supervision of the management team including the Department Managers.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must possess a current Nursing Home Administrator License for the State of Hawaii
- Must obtain an Assisted Living Facility License within 9 months of employment
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or related field required.
- (3) years of increasingly responsible administrative experience, at least two (2) of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity
- Effective leadership and organizational skills
- Financial skills to manage organization
- Experience with project management
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques and administration; contract administration and negotiation; independent and assisted living resident care and skilled nursing facility administration; community resources; and fiscal and organizational management
- Experience in Marketing and Public Relations

- Understanding, dedication, and passion in working with and representing the elderly
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends and to travel; must have a valid driver’s license
Essential Duties
- Responsible for carrying out the goals and objectives as embodied by the mission statement of the Facility.
- Establishes service and financial objectives of the Facility and plans for their accomplishment, including personnel budget, operating budget, and capital budgets, submitting these to the Management Agent for approval.
- Responsible for the development, implementation, and accomplishment of the annual work plan as approved by the Management Agent.
- Responsible for overall leadership of staff in the development and implementation of short- and long-range plans and policies.
- Controls and coordinates the Facility’s use of legal counsel and all independent contractors and consultants.
- Responsible for providing information and recommendations to the ED of KG and the Management Agent in the creation of policies, programs, and strategic direction of the Facility.
- Responsible for administration of overall operations of the Facility, including reviewing and evaluating the results of program activities and ensuring that continuing contractual obligations are being fulfilled.
- Works with direct reports to ensure optimum staffing and utilization of competent staff, recommending policy changes to benefits, compensation, employment, training and other areas as appropriate.
- Reviews current practices and methods; and initiates development of new ones as necessary to reduce costs, encourage growth and improve efficiency.
- Takes lead and primary oversight in executing strategies for marketing activities required for the approved master plan for the Facility.
- Responsible for managing and effectively implementing the rebuilding and revitalization project for the Facility.
- Maintains liaison with such governmental agencies as necessary to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Obtains Management Agent approvals on any amendments to contracts which deviate substantially and/or have a financial impact greater than $5,000 from a proposal, operating plan or other document previously reviewed and approved by the Board and/or depart from the Facility’s policy.
- Handles all media relations.
- Represents the Facility to the public, participating within reasonable time limitations in activities and events which effectively promote the Facility’s image.
- Keeps the ED fully informed of all matters that could impose liability, cause adverse publicity, or have adverse financial consequences to the Facility.
- Is the leader of KG’s management team with responsibility for general oversight of the organization for: a. efficient use of resources, staff fulfillment of their duties and responsibilities, staff follow proper work safety standards, regulatory compliance, quality resident care.
- Performs such other tasks and assignments as shall be assigned by the KG Owners and /or Management Agent.

- Ability to operate various types of office equipment, such as computer terminals, fax machines, copiers, calculators, telephones, etc.
Work Hours
- Work hours are generally Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm. May be required to work other than above shift as resident care and operations requires.
Mental Demands
- Requires providing professional level of services. Also requires a sincere dire to work with the aged and those with limited capacity for self-care. Subject to frequent interruptions. Exposed to infections, odors and peculiarities in the behavior of aged residents.
Physical Demands
- Requires frequent walking, standing and sitting during the workday
Communication Demands
- Requires communicating with all levels of staff, residents, and visitors during the shift. Requires the ability to speak before a large group

Minimum Qualifications
- Must hold and maintain a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Hawaii.
- Recent clinical experience, education, or specialty skills specific to geriatrics.

This position is very active and requires:

- The employee must frequently lift or move objects and patients weighing up to 40 pounds. Following the patient care plan and using a variety of equipment, the employee may frequently move, reposition and transfer patients of varying weights up to 300 lbs.
- Must have finger and hand dexterity sufficient to type, handle and manipulate instruments and operate departmental equipment.
- Have a working understanding of English: ability to read and write; ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions; ability to verbally communicate with residents and others; ability to hear and respond to pages.

- Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant in good standing with the state, or must within four (4) months of employment successfully complete state-required training and a competency evaluation program. Must maintain a current certification in the state throughout employment.
- Must achieve 12 hours of in service education annually as required by federal regulations (as well as meet state requirements, if exceeds federal).

Basic Duties and Responsibilities
Below is a description of basic job duties though other related duties may become necessary as directed by supervisor.
- Performs walk-through security patrols of building’s interior and exterior.
- Secures/unlocks doors as specified.
- Monitors lights (i.e., lights on or off appropriately).
- Monitors outside areas of community (i.e., parking areas, grounds, stairwells).
- Checks unauthorized visitors.
- Checks vacant units.
- Checks units with lights on at unusual times.
- Monitors emergency call system and response accordingly.
- Responds to emergencies quickly and appropriately.
- Records safety check times in log.
- Handles front lobby responsibilities as directed (i.e., guest room check in/out, telephone calls).
- Assists with check-in system for residents.
- Ensures newspaper delivery.
- Assists with set-up and tear down related to activities events.
- Responds appropriately to maintenance needs.
- Assists other staff in lifting residents who have fallen.
- Provides transportation to residents as scheduled (or as emergency needs arise).
WORKING CONDITION
- Works throughout community- inside and outside
- Subject to frequent interruptions.
- Works beyond normal working hours, on weekends, and in other positions temporarily as necessary.
- Subjects to falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc. throughout the working day.
